Wapsi Badger Fur

Uses

Badger Fur offers quite a bit of versatility at the vise, and although it's commonly used to tie wings and collars on baitfish and steelhead/salmon flies, this fur has many other applications too. With its long, rigid guard hairs, Badger Fur works well for tailing material on nymphs, dry flies, and even poppers, and it can also be used for backs on crustaceans; the soft underfur is also a great choice as a dubbing material, either on its own or blended with other materials.

Comparisons

Badger Fur has pretty unique characteristics and colors, and there really aren't a ton of comparable materials out there. But if you need a quick substitute, your best bet is probably American Opossum Fur. American Opossum has a similar coloration with fibers that are on the long side, though not nearly as long as Badger Fur.
