Bionic Ant Fly

The Bionic Ant Fly was created by Lance Egan to fool wary bank-laying trout and act as an ant imitation that fell somewhere between huge ant patterns like the Chernobyl and common tiny parachute-ant patterns. The Bionic Ant has a realistic ant-like profile in the water, and its foam segmented body with flexible legs and hackle allows it to float well and provide visibility in swift water.

The Bionic Ant Fly works in most sizes, but the most common to have on hand are 12-16. This is a fly that should be reserved for your spring through fall fly box and is a great pattern for windy days and searching water that's rich with overhanging trees and brush. Most of the time, you'll want to dead drift this fly, but it can occasionally pay off to add a twitch to your presentation.
